The Role of a Hospice Chaplain
What does a hospice chaplain do? How does a hospice chaplain help patients and families?
Read MoreI have been a Registered Nurse since the early 1980’s. My nursing career started in Intensive Care. The teamwork associated with hospital nursing is something that I have always loved. Hence, the interdisciplinary approach of hospice care keeps me passionate about the work that has chosen me!
I hold certifications as a Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN) as well as a Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Administrator (CHPCA). I also maintain my license as a Home Health Administrator for the State of Oklahoma.
Currently, I serve as a Board Member of the Hospice and Palliative Care Credentialing Center or HPCC. Previously, I have been involved as a member of the Exam Development Committee for Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Administrators. I was a founding member of the Northeast Oklahoma HPNA chapter, where I currently serve as Nominating Committee Chair. My belief in the value of competent hospice and palliative care clinicians is what drives my involvement with HPCC and HPNA.
There are many misconceptions about working in hospice. I view it as an opportunity to help patients and their families have the best experience possible during a difficult and trying time. I cherish having the opportunity to bring comfort to an end of life experience.
After working in hospice, you naturally develop a passion for educating others about it. We see the benefit of this type of care every day and want to reach out to as many individuals as possible to allow them to reap the benefits that hospice care offers.
When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family. My husband and I enjoy traveling, especially anywhere there is a sandy beach.
